Three New Ways to Enjoy VT Artisan Coffee!

A New Origin Has Landed :  In 1936 ten pounds of coffee seeds were collected from the area surrounding Geisha Mountain by Captain Richard Whalley. The descendants of this sub-variety are currently cultivated throughout the world and are known for their remarkable complexity. Hacienda La Esmeralda has consistently produced some of the highest quality examples of this rare and sought after coffee.

Located on the volcanic mountain ridges surrounding the Boquete River Valley of Panama, they produce a naturally processed coffee that evokes caramelized blackberry and cherry compote. With spice notes of cinnamon and nutmeg that linger; and hints of lemon zest, apricot, mandarin orange and jasmine. When roasted light it has a remarkably resonant dark chocolate liquor finish.

We will be taking a limited number of orders for this coffee. Email Sales@vtartisan.com for pricing.

Caff-Draft is the Cold Brew you Were Waiting For : Two years ago we decided to explore the world of cold brew. After traveling the world sourcing coffee, roasting, blending, experimenting and designing equipment. We had a break through this spring when we brewed an outrageously creamy cold brew that is as complex as hot brewed coffee, yet rich enough to develop a head like a good craft stout.

We quietly rolled out the fruits of our labor in May.  Caff-Draft was first introduced at Barrio Bakery in Burlington’s Old North End, and was quickly added to Waterbury Center’s Cold Hollow Cider Mill.  While our goal was simply to gather feedback and continue developing recipes; we quickly realized that we had something Vermonters were craving, and there was no turning back.

We immediately filled the full time position of Brew Master by bringing in Amber Zadrozny, a winemaker by trade, formerly of Six Mile Creek Winery. With her help we were able to keep up with the incredible demand for this product that grew throughout the summer.

Following our official debut at the Vermont Brewer’s Festival on the Burlington Waterfront Caff-Draft was brought in at the Chubby MuffinKiosk in the Burlington Airport and Stowe Cider’s tasting room
. We look forward to developing and releasing new recipes this fall, so keep a sharp lookout!

Coffee Loves Caramel : There is a new caramel out from Fat Toad Farm, and we are really loving this one.  Cold Brew Flavored Caramel is the latest recipe collaboration to come out of the Brookfield farm and we were proud to be a part of its creation.  For our part we invited Calley and Christine in to cup origins from all over the world to find a coffee special enough to pair with a caramel made with locally sourced goat’s milk.

After extensive cupping, and brewing we decided that a concentrated cold brew made with our single origin Colombian was the perfect compliment. The resulting caramel is a complex treat that brings together the mild tang you might expect from a chévre with the bright citrus-like acidity of a fine light roast Colombian coffee.  Fat Toad Farm will be shipping this caramel this fall, it is currently available here
